This old mining city, established in 1890 following the Witwatersrand Gold Rush - Randfontein officially became a municipality in 1929. Renowned for having the largest stamp mill in the world, Randfontein is made up of a collection of rural smallholdings, vast fields and a thriving community in its centre. While still largely dependent on the mining industry, Randfontein is no longer living in the past and has benefited from modernisation and vast development.
